Thought it was a decent interview, not deep with information we didn't already know and there should be more stuff like this, in terms of communicating with the fanbase.
I don't think he's done a bad job in the last 3 years with everything that's gone on but appreciate everyone will have their own opinion on that.
I do wonder with the Club doing this video means Kevin Thelwell is staying and overseeing the " Summer Rebuild" 🤔

I imagine he respects the manager's opinion ans vice versa.
The lowest spend every year for 3 years in the premier league and yet we are still a Premier League team.
Players like Luca Digne, Amazon Onana, Anthony Gordon, Andrade Richarlison all sold for big money and replaced on the cheap.
Does he deserve to have a chance to build with money?
As the yanks like to say, "Hell Yeah baby!"

Mark, I do hope this interview may signal the Friedkins' intent to keep Thelwell. I thought it was well handled.
And Peter, I agree with you that Kevin deserves the opportunity.
But as Clint Eastwood said to Gene Hackman just before blowing his head off in Unforgiven, "Deserve's got nothing to do with it." If the Friedkins believe somebody else would be better at selecting and signing those 9-12 new players in the summer window, then Thelwell will be wished well and thanked for his good work on the way out the door.
Incidentally, Thelwell had nothing to do with the blunder of selling Digne. That was entirely driven by the monumentally moronic Benitez. Digne was sold three days before Benitez got the sack -- too bad the events weren't reversed -- and seven weeks before Thelwell joined Everton from New York.

Thelwell said quite a lot in a cagey fashion during his interview.
He thought that the squad this season was better than last season, therefore hinted that we have under-achieved. Most transfers done in January are over-priced by 20% compared to the summer, so we held off. He was also explicit that it is also impossible to have the lowest net spend in the premier league and expect to improve.
He indicated that it will be a busy summer, but the focus will be on evolution rather than revolution. That means we won't spend a fortune and we will look for young talent in the transfer market and create better development paths for Academy players.
I also got the sense he expected to be here next season. It did sound like he has getting his talking points into the public domain before the review of his contract extension.
Either that or he is marketing himself externally.

I cant be bothered watching the interview Steve, especially when you point out the contradiction of him saying that, we have a squad that is better than last seasons, even though he thinks it is impossible to have the lowest net spend in the premier league and expect to improve!
Football is full of lip service, and although I think Thelwell, has done an admirable job, under the circumstances, when considering the absolutely disgraceful state of the club when he joined, I believe there are better people, then Everton should go and get them.

Tony, spot on as usual.
If we want to transform this club then we should look to recruit the best in every category.
The DoF role is critical and I would like a selection process that Thelwell can participate in. But, it should not be a given that his contract

Imagine Thelwell actually being able to keep players. I don't mean the ageing players no-one will pay a transfer fee for.
Richarlison, Gordon, dinge, onana add them to this team, and what a difference it would make.
As others have said its hard to know if he can take us to another level, because he's not been given money he's been generating it. Which in itself is a skill that shouldn't be underestimated I'm sure TFG will see that and hope he can keep doing it further up the scale of quality players, improving the squad, generating more fees, bigger fees to further invest.

Whilst Thewell comes across fine and his transfers have been above average I do worry about Finch Farm staff tripping over one another and his recruitment drive as part of it.
The Wages% of the squad has decreased 15% over this past 5 years and Everton is the only Premier League to have made a Profit in the Transfers. But the wages% is still is estimated to be one of the highest in the Premier League, even after a approximately £10 million increase in turnover in the last two years.Footballers are on short term contracts, whilst staff mostly on permanent contracts. This is a problem were there appears to be no accountability or performance measurement at Everton, aka Bad Management. The playing side seems to be a lesser priority still.
