BRAMLEY MOORE DOCK HYMN SHEET
Its just half-a-dozen games now. Ninety days. The emotions are zipping around now: Im spending far too much time on Ye Olde Football Channel. Six games.
Ive noticed how often tunes are suggested for the Dock. All of them good except for Hewey/PH/Mr. Hewitts Mr. Blue Sky.
Pure off the cuff, but what could those seven tunes be that become the seven tunes that get played before ZCars at BMD? Everyone will have their own ideas and a lot of lists will change a minute later.
Heres mine for the time being.
Beatles: In My Life
New Radicals: You Get What You Give
Big Country: In a Big Country
Pogues: Thousands Are Sailing
Simple Minds: Waterfront (my top tune for this place and time)
In My Liverpool Home (We Built this City – Since 1878)
GOT (has to be; I know others disagree but it always says us to me)
ZCars (even more us)

Where are your tunes Les! (He won't be)

Oh my Fucking god….what an absolutely amazing stadium. I was lucky enough to be there tonight, and believe me, it will blow away any other stadium in this country. Honestly, words cannot describe how magnificent that stadium is, and whether you live in the city centre, or, like Christine whos down in New Zealand, you have to visit it!
As much as we all love Goodison, this stadium will simply get into your hearts, and will remain there forever. The view from the upper south stand looking back towards the city centre, is breathtaking. The walk along Regent Road, seeing the stadium in the distance, lit up in blue, is awe inspiring. I could go on forever, but I will let others come up with their own thoughts on simply how magnificent this stadium is!

Super excited...what a milestone day. Not going to lie...I was not sure this day would come. What an opportunity for both teams tonight
18/02/2025 at 01:20:52
Rob, congratulations and huzzah for our new place.
Brian W. was kind enough to send me some video from his seat. Just spectacular.
I can't wait to see it.
18/02/2025 at 03:49:10
Nice one Rob. I got plenty of video from mates and every word you say is true. It's fitting that you were there at the first game.
18/02/2025 at 07:36:25
Difficult to assess from watching on TV, and I may be biased, but it certainly doesn't look too bowl-like. Looks fabulous.
Some new stadiums are so generic looking. Part of the lure of Goodison and older stadiums is the traditional look and feel, as in falling to pieces, but with the crowd so close to the pitch, they generate an atmosphere all by themselves.
I imagine over time BMD will be able to recreate the Goodison atmosphere.
Disappointing to see so many fans leaving so early but I guess that is a good test for when our fans leave early in the senior games. 😀
18/02/2025 at 08:32:24
Ian # 7……..literally hundreds left the stadium at half time, us included, but obviously nothing to do with the score at half time. Everyone was there for one reason only, to get a look inside the stadium, and maybe, again like me and me mates, get to see where our seats are in the upper tier of the south stand. We found ours, occupied at the time, but the very kind lady who was in there with her son let us stand there while she took a picture of us.
18/02/2025 at 08:59:17
Rob, thanks for your reply, yep, I understand the reason why people were going and imagine it was a fantastic experience. However, I still feel it's a shame for the U18 players that so many fans upped and went. Would have been nice to support to them to the end, says the supporter who gets to see very few live games these days!
From what you have reported, seems it's going to be an amazing place to watch football..and to think there were some out there who thought this stadium would never be built. Can't remember the names of them!

Paul Ferry
Just cant get enough by The New Radicles would get my vote.
18/02/2025 at 09:34:55
Radicals even.
18/02/2025 at 10:35:19
We shall not be moved woild be appropriate for our new home
18/02/2025 at 11:55:39
Unpopular opinion but I think the likes of Grand Old Team and ZCars should be dropped for the new stadium, I would love the team to come out to Two Tribes by FGTH with the same war siren at the. beginning and before you have a go at me go and have a listen to it first and imagine the team running out to it.
18/02/2025 at 12:05:58
Colin, seem to remember one of the lyrics was 'a point is all you can score'
We really need to be looking at 3 points.
However Two Tribes is a classic
18/02/2025 at 13:04:43
The power of Love by FGTH also a classic song which could be sung for the team and the stadium!
18/02/2025 at 13:28:47
Colin - Id definitely second ‘Two Tribes. A great tune and it has the right opening.
I do love the air raid siren followed by ‘Z Cars though. Gives me a shiver down my back.
Would happily see the back of ‘Grand Old Team. Its an anachronism and needs to be consigned to history.
18/02/2025 at 13:48:34
This always makes me think of our team, One Direction's History
You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)
We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen
You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)
So don't let it go, we can make some more
We can live forever...ton
18/02/2025 at 15:03:36
Tony. I started learning our songs before my first trip to Goodison eight years ago. I thought from the outset that Grand Old Team was seriously lame!
18/02/2025 at 15:11:37
Yeah, move on from tinny Z-cars, and the camp version of Grand Old Team. Need a proper anthem that stirs the soul
18/02/2025 at 18:19:17
Mike - I cant recall hearing it at a match until about 25 years ago when they had a guy dressed in a white suit, singing it live before what I think was the first game of the season.
I could be wrong but I think it might have become a ‘thing from then on.
The fact that it mentions them twats from over the way should be reason enough to banish it forever.
18/02/2025 at 18:20:38
Take the point about the GOT version. It is a bit olde worlde tinny and cute. But ZCARS has to stay. GOT is not ours, but ZCARS is. When Sutton, yes Sutton, talked us up big on 606 Sunday he started with ZCARS. It was tbh quite hair-raising. ZCARS and the siren.
18/02/2025 at 18:27:59
I'm struggling here. I rarely missed a match 1975-2000, I'm scratching my head, but was "Marching Down the Goodison Road" a standard song in those 25 years? I simply can't recall it being so, but I can loudly sing "We Are Evil", "You'll Never Make the Station", "Jesus Christ was an Evertonian", "You're Going Home in a Fucking Ambulance", "You're gonna get Your Fucking Heads Kicked in" with the best of them.
How about: Waterfront, We Are Evil, Siren/Zcars?
19/02/2025 at 04:27:12
Im surprised the club didnt have some stipulations about the crowd staying put for the test events. Surely one of the things they are ‘testing is how quickly a full section is likely to empty under its own steam / not in an emergency scenario?
On the music front, I like both the FGTH suggestions and PFs selection though Im another who could live without GOT.
Losing Z cars would devastate me… I love it and it really ‘sets the scene for me.
I have a few favourite tunes I can imagine being given fresh lyrics for use at BMD: ‘Party fears two ( The Associates)‘Bring on the dancing horses (E&TB), ‘Fishermans Blues (The Waterboys), Lets dance (Bowie), ‘Save the population (RHCP), ‘Sing for Absolution (Muse).
Rough outline for example: ‘Lets Dance would start ‘Alcaraz! Dum de da da dum dee.. and shout for the Blues! Ndiaye! Da de da da doo dee.. Coz we know we cant lose! And if its not Dom, it will be Beto….” etc, etc.
A few blanks to fill in but Im sure itll all come together! :)
19/02/2025 at 06:36:12
What a song, ‘Party fears two (The Associates), one of the great range vocals, and a great documentary about a tragically short life. Heaven Up Here. That's the album for me. But Dancing Horses is magnificent Si. Pity the twat is match-going red shite.
19/02/2025 at 08:26:53
I've never really been a big fan of If you know your history. Celtic and Tottenham have their adaptations and sing it.
I know supporters copy each other, the latest being the Allez, Allez number our neighbours started. Now heard frequently around different grounds, notably Villa.
Z Cars is a bit more controversial and dropping it would be divisive. But that was also adopted by Watford. I think originally, it was played at Vicarage Road during the build up, before the teams came out, but now, like us, they run out to it.
I don't know what an alternative would be. Hey Jude might have been good, but City and Newcastle have that. I don't think Z Cars is going anywhere any time soon, although Fritz Spiegl, the Austrian, who settled in Liverpool after WW2 and adapted Johnny Todd for Z Cars, was a Liverpool supporter!!!
I too had never heard Marching until the past couple of seasons. I like it as I do most of the songs and chants Everton supporters sing along too. There's a lot of originality in a lot of them, that no others could copy.
Not to run out to, but I do like the Fields of Athenry, my favourite Irish song. It would have been apt, given our historical and current Irish connections, but that lot went and ruined it.
I'm a big fan of Elton's I guess that's why they call it (us) the blues, but that's maybe one for post match, like at the derby, although some of the best renditions of that have been heard in the likes of the Winslow.
19/02/2025 at 09:04:19
Paul, its perfect for something like ‘Faith in the new Moyesiah - tempted but now back home. Starting to stoke the fire - resurgent in our new home.
He cant stop us using the tune can he?
19/02/2025 at 09:31:45
Danny@26
You say re Z Cars “ think originally, it was played at Vicarage Road”. It was first used at Goodison. The writer of the TV series Z Cars was a Blue and the tune was played at Goodison in his honour when he attended a match. I think we had a good result and it was deemed to be lucky and we continued to use it. Watford didnt use it for another year or two after.
19/02/2025 at 10:07:10
Not according to a number of sources Ray.
This one from the Independent explains the background behind him composing the Z Cars version as his wife had writing writes for a tune for the then new television series.
And if you scroll down, you'll read this:
He had his own column in The Listener, too, and once somehow managed to convince the editor that he should fly to Italy to cover a game of his beloved Liverpool FC

How about "Your're Simply the (Championship at) Best?
19/02/2025 at 20:36:26
I like Z-cars but Black Sabbath War Pigs would be a great song to walk out to, put the fear of God (or the devil) into the visitors. Even starts with a siren!
19/02/2025 at 22:36:30
Jesus, War Pigs, I thought that you were a nice retiring rural gent Neil who attended all parish council meetings and entered your perfectly groomed aubergines for the parish fair.
20/02/2025 at 13:34:34
Tubthumping by Chumbawaba describes being an Evertonian over the last 30 years.
‘I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down
I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down
Pissin' the night away
Pissin' the night away
He drinks a whiskey drink
He drinks a Vodka drink
He drinks a Lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times”
It even has a chorus specially for Danny.
20/02/2025 at 13:46:47
Danny, the following piece is from the guide to Liverpool, I thought it was the writer of the series but it was in fact one of the actors.
“
The title track itself was based on an old Liverpool sea shanty called Johnny Todd, which dates back to 1891 and tells the story of a cuckolded sailor. The instrumental TV version was composed by Liverpool-based, Austrian-born musician and journalist, Fritz Spiegl.
On 7 March 1962, a revamped version of the Z-Cars theme was released, aimed squarely at the pop charts with the inclusion of the now-famous klaxons, reaching number eight.
In November that same year, a few days before his tragic death, EFC fan and Z-Cars actor, Leonard Williams from West Derby, the only genuine Scouser among the cast, playing Sgt. Percy Twentyman, was formerly invited to watch Everton play Blackpool.
As Everton famously went on to win the 1963 league, with the song about the boys in blue becoming synonymous with this great season for EFCs boys in blue, it was loyally adopted by supporters, not only in memory of their win, but of their famous supporter, Leonard Williams.”
20/02/2025 at 13:56:02
Danny, theres also a more detailed write up from David Prentice in the Echo from 2019 if you want to research it 👍🏻
20/02/2025 at 15:52:04
Like I say Ray, it depends what source you read or believe. It doesn't matter anyway, if it was Fritz Spiegl and he was a Liverpudlian, he probably didn't care or realise it would be adopted by Everton.
I had read that about Leonard Williams when looking into it, which led me to look into celebrity supporters.
It is both fascinating and surprising. We've got Sylvester Stallone, once quoted as saying he wished he'd bought the club before it because he must only be a mere millionaire!!!
Paul McCartney, brought up in a family of Evertonians seems to have his allegiance with the clubs, although I sometimes wondered. As he spread his winds (excuse the pun), he seemed to swing both ways. Blue and Red, not the other thing.
Then Amanda Holden and Dame Judy Dench, both Patrons of Everton in the Community, with Dame Judy saying:
"I was truly honoured to be offered the chance to become involved in such a special charity and at my football club."
That was a surprise to me.
And any talk of dropping Z cars may be contested by Tony Bellew who walked out to it for his memorable fight at Goodison. I wouldn't argue with him!!
Steve @32, I'm up for that!!
20/02/2025 at 16:30:09
Danny, at least our slebs will be proper fans and not professional scousers like “Our Cilla” or the terminally unfunny Bishop cretin.
21/02/2025 at 03:32:36
You're being unfair to cretins Ray.
21/02/2025 at 08:51:19
Probably right Paul. Does that mean Im cancelled?

You're indispensable Ray

Presumably Harrison Rimmer will be charged with inciting the crowd after his sign to the crowd at tonights match at BMD ?
