Everton name four more “Giants” to honour roll
Paul Bracewell, Andy Gray, Derek Mountfield and Kevin Sheedy, four heroes from the Toffees' brilliant title- and cup-winning side of the mid-1980s, were unveiled as the latest Everton Giants today.
Since the turn of the millennium, the Club have been paying tribute to legendary players from the past with this accolade and these latest honourees follow Neville Southall, Dave Watson, Kevin Ratcliffe, Trevor Steven, Gary Stevens, Peter Reid, Graeme Sharp, Adrian Heath and Pat van den Hauwe from the same era — as well as their manager Howard Kendall — in making the list.
The quartet was paraded and photographed on the pitch at Goodison Park at the Premier League game between Everton and Manchester United where they received especially engraved stones that will be set into the Everton Way outside the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Bracewell, Gray, Mountfield, and Sheedy were members of the team that won the FA Cup in 1984, the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985 and the English Division One championship the same year. Only defeat in extra-time in the FA Cup Final to United prevented Kendall's side from landing a historic treble.
Gray was sold to Aston Villa at the end of that success-drenched season and replaced by Gary Lineker but his impact during his short stint as a Blue was immense and it included goals in the 2-0 triumph over Watford at Wembley in '84, the semi-final against Bayern Munich the following year and the ECWC final in Rotterdam.
Bracewell, Mountfield and Sheedy would stay on to achieve even more success and rack up over 600 appearances between them.

Thanks for the memories is my short message to every single player who was out on the pitch at half time including our unofficial captain, The great Peter Reid.
Bracewell, Grey, Mountfield and Sheedy, I closed my eyes and thought of something that I thought was special, that I witnessed all of you do in an Everton shirt, at Goodison Pk, as my emotions drifted back to what was a perfect era for us Evertonians 👏👏💙

Wow!
In the 1984/85 Season, we went on an 18 game unbeaten Run, Winning 10 games on the trot!
And that was after a slow start!
I doubt if you could see the likes of that again.. definitely not in my Twilight years!
So, Kudos to everyone involved.

Special players in a special team at a special time being an Evertonian.
It brings a smile to the face and a tear to the eye.
How fortunate we were to watch these players and the teams of that era.
Sheedy needs no explanation. "General" Reid. The understated Bracewell (not by us) was a joy to watch. And Derek "Shiner" Mountfield and 14 goals in a season. Not a bad return for a centre back.
Not good times. They were great times.

And the mad thing is that I stopped going to the match in 1982 and missed it all ! I was too busy trying to be a mod and didn't think a mohair suit would work in the Street End.

The Mirror headline in 1985, 'The People's Champions', said it all.

Guess I was surprised it has taken so long looking at the others on the list. Interesting that Gray was only around 18 months and Mountfield barely three years. Maybe legends not in longevity, but certainly in achievement.

I have just turned 60 and it seems like yesterday when I watched my older brother run onto the pitch at Highbury after Heath's semi-final winner. I was only 19 back then, the good times were just beginning. Sadly, they were fleeting but boy did we enjoy them at the time. I hope the younger generation gets to witness those times again. The four players above were priceless, and to think I used to complain that Sheedy was lazy! Hey - what did I know?

My best mate was like that Shaun about Sheedy. He used to complain that he didn't like messing his hair up!!
Almost waiting for him to make a mistake. Fortunately, he mainly had long waits!!
