Sounds like he has something to offer... I do wonder where this leaves poor Tyler Dibling mind you...

Shades of the Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend signings. Quite low risk. I've seen some clips by Palace fans posted this last couple of days and he was woeful for them. We look decent for options on the wings. The RB issue is getting tiresome now. I still think we need a genuine goalscorer. I'd be looking at Jesus at Arsenal.

We will have to wait and see however I do smell a rat with this deal, seems Palace were very keen to get rid of a player who they only signed for big money a year or so before? I hope it’s not Dele Alli 2.0 and it later comes to light he’s on sleeping pills or anything of that nature. Is there something you’re not telling us Mr Parish?

Rupert # 1, poor Dibling now needs to step and impress. If the likes of Barry can can play in multiple countries with different languages, I am sure Dibling can manage to acclimatise to a new city a few hundred miles away.

Craig # 2, I don’t recall Gray or Townsend scoring the winner in a recent European final… and if you want a striker with a recent track record of scoring no more than 4 league goals then yes, Jesus is your man. He’d also be exactly the sort of daft vanity signing that helped to ruin the club under Moshiri.

Harry # 3, maybe, just maybe our recruitment team have again found decent quality at low cost (as appears to be the case with Rohl, George, Norgaard and Hackney).

Seriously the negativity on this site is incredible.

I read somewhere, totally unverified, of course, that he had a post-match altercation with Pierre Sage after one of their pre-season games, so it’s a case of a new manager stamping his authority. Like I said, it could well be idle gossip, but it makes sense why they wanted rid so quickly - without giving him a fresh start under a new manager.
As Robert says, if and when he gets paired with a decent RB, it’s a game-changer. Literally.

I genuinely think this could be a very good signing. If Johnson can get himself back to the player he was at Forest and in his first season at Spurs, he’ll be a real asset. Two years ago, we’d have been delighted to have signed Johnson.Plus he’s still only 25, so could be approaching his best years. And for all the moaning I do about Dour Dave, it has to be said he’s got form for getting very positive performances from players who appeared to have lost their way, the classic example being Steven Pienaar. Also Jack Grealish to some extent, who until his injury was looking a bit more like the Grealish I remembered at Villa and during City’s treble winning season.Maybe Moyes is one of those managers who puts his arm around players and provides them with a lot of TLC??…Not sure I can imagine that in all honesty though!!

@Robert - I get you - step up or step out. I suppose that from my (limited) viewpoint it doesn't look like that to me. Perhaps Dibling depsite the price tag isn't good enough, or perhaps the manager is 'limited' in his approach and isn't giving him the chance. I'm not a football manager, only a fan, and it seems to me that the club risks destroying the player's/ team's mentality. Patterson, Aznou, Alcaraz, Dibling... I'm certain the manager is better at judging these things than I am... I still don't like it

Robert. Sorry but I should have been clearer, I thought Gray and Townsend were good signings in that they were cheap and low risk. Townsend was really unlucky with his injury which happened at Crystal Palace, if I remember. I think Johnson is a good piece of business but I have had higher expectations for players in the past who failed to deliver (Lindstrom, Delph, van de Beek, Alli, Kean etc.)

Gabriel Jesus might be past it but he's a better finisher than Beto or Barry will ever be and he's a winner. He's also only 29 years of age which is younger than Norgaard (who I think is a good signing as well). Lazio are interested in Jesus. He can't be that bad. He used to score against us all the time.

The reason he did not work at Palace, was against a deep defence he wasn't that good.

I agreed with your optimism, Robert. Brennan brings pace, directness, dribbing and finishing to a squad that lacks a bit of everything. If Beto and Barry continues to shoot worse than Schoolboys, at least we have another option in the team to play Centre Forward (whether Moyes' annoying stubborness and lack of imagination would allow that to happen is a complete different issue) and finish the chances (all our wingers nodded their heads furiously).

I reckon if he is not going to be as selfish on the field at times as Mirallas, Brennan certainly has all the positive traits of both Mirallas and Donovan.

Secretly getting giddy that Brennan will turn out as successful a reclamation project as Arteta and Pienaar.

The key thing is that Johnson will not be a success on his own. Football is a team game and to make best use of his attributes we need a right full back of quality - to complement the hard working (but decently technical) midfield trio we already have.

Barry was at a huge disadvantage last year because:

- the deep defensive line resulting from Branthwaites injury left Barry isolated

- the lack of pace and penetration on the flanks left Barry with few chances

Exactly the same reasons DCL had struggled for goals and yet suddenly is back to form when arriving at a Leeds team with a much better balanced side

That is exactly the problem is Moyes allows Everyone to sit deep and does not have a faster attacking tactic in place Johnson will not be able to do what he does best, just as McNeill found himself. The only advantage Johnson has is pace, but he needs players with pace along side him.If Grealish is signed on another loan the attack will be too slow for Johnson. He does not suit Elie deliberate build up, which is what you often get with control freak Moyes.Johnson excelled in Tottenham's 4-3-3 but didn't fit into Palace's 5-2-2-1/4-3-4 system.

Moyes will play a higher line with Branthwaite in the side - just as he did with all the mobile CBs he brought to the club like Yobo, Jagielka, Distin and Lescott.

Grealish would be a good complement to Johnson because of his technical ability. He draws players to him and creates space to run into. This is similar to how Eriksen and Son worked together under Pochettino at Spurs. The key thing Grealish needs is a Baines style left back to go on the outside and create multiple passing options. When we have that then the pitch really opens up for a fast player like Johnson (and Barry too).

Moyes is conservative yes but the available players dictate the tactics much of the time.

This is an elite player. I can hardly believe we pulled off this deal.
And he's absolutely perfect for us.

And let’s not forget that’s he’s reuniting with Garner from their Forest days. If those two click, then we’re in for a treat.
Also, even if we stick to the somewhat simplistic, erroneous notion that Moyes doesn’t allow players to run at pace, on the break - I’d fancy Johnson taking second balls from a Pickford punt and scoring. Cant wait to see an improving Barry with Johnson alongside.

This 4-3-4 formation that keeps being mentioned is surely not right? Or, maybe it explains why palace won a cup?
If I’m Glasner, and I have 12 players every game, no wonder I can win the lot?
