Early season results can sometimes be misleading. The 5-2 win against Ipswich in 1961 came a few weeks after Harry Catterick’s former club, Sheffield Wednesday, had beaten us 0-4 at Goodison. That defeat prompted some calls for a taxi for Harry, his predecessor Johnny Carey having been sacked by John Moores in a taxi in April 1961. In those days football club owners and boards were generally a little more patient than
many of their counterparts seven decades later.

Alf Ramsey was appointed manager at Ipswich in 1955 when they were a Third Division (South) club. Two promotions and a league title made him a candidate, but far from a firm favourite, for the England job. Having been appointed in October 1962 he lost his first game in charge the following February, 5-2 against France. Few imagined then he would lead England to the World Cup three years later.

I think Larry Carberry (a boy Ramsey spotted playing for Bootle) played in every single one of those Ipswich games that season.
Later he would regularly drop into the alehouses on Scottie. They didnt get any more down to earth than Larry. If you didnt know he was a title winner, you wouldnt have found out from him

Ramsey was underrated after the World Cup.He was the first Manager I seen subject to the critics.In hindsight he was the best Manager England ever had.

Ipswich always cause a few surprises.The are holding there own since promotion.There £65 million training facilities and data driven approach is the way to go.

I think Moyes will be careful with them.He will remember them from the past. When Robson was their Manager they always played the ball back rather than progress up the wings.Was Bobby Robson a Manager who did not rely on winger. I seem to remember Ramsey being the same, a change on the old traditional style of Wingers and Centre Forwards

We've not lost yet. A 5-2 Sixty-five year repeat will do just fine.
