Updated: Charly Alcaraz will become the first permanent signing of The Friedkin Group era when his loan from Flamengo officially expires after Everton activated an option to acquire him from the Brazilian club for a reported £12m.

The Argentine was the new owners’ first acquisition when he joined on loan in January and though the club elected not to trigger an automatic purchase clause during the season by starting him in at least nine matches, David Moyes used the player judiciously in the interim period to enable him to earn the permanent switch.

Alcaraz scored two goals in his 16 appearances, including an impressive header against Newcastle on the final day of the campaign as the Toffees beat the Magpies 1–0. He also weighed in with three assists, underlining his attacking contribution and his potential to become an explosive option in the number 10 role behind the centre-forward.

He will sign a two-year contract with a club option for a further season and, the transfer, which reportedly includes appearance-related clauses that could add another £1.5m to the fee, means Everton will become Alcaraz’s fifth club in many seasons.

He broke into Racing Club’s senior side in his native Argentina in 2020 before moving to the Premier League in January 2023 with Southampton. He made a favourable enough impression in the Saints side that would be relegated that year to earn a loan move to Juventus before Flamengo signed him in a €18m deal last year.

Alcaraz’s failure to settle at the Brazilian club, coupled with their financial struggles, gave Moyes and Everton the opportunity to swoop in during the winter window and snap him up on loan and it now looks as though he is to become a permanent acquisition as TFG set about rebuilding the squad.

The news about Alcaraz comes amid reports that Everton are close to agreeing fresh terms with Idrissa Gueye. The Senegalese is out of contract this summer but was the outstanding performer in 2024/25 so the Blues would be loathe to lose him.

One player who looks unlikely to join this summer is Liam Delap. The Ipswich striker appears from most accounts to have chosen Chelsea above the likes of Everton, Newcastle and Manchester United.

Two excellent signings to get the summer trading going. If suitable deals can be done, I wouldn't be averse to seeing Keane & Calvert Lewin signed up as well.

Agreed Dennis, we've got a lot of players to bring in this summer, DCL as third choice striker and Keane as fourth choice CB kn appropriate salaries would be fine with me.

This is really positive news. In truth I would have been surprised if we had not completed the signing especially in view of the relatively low fee. I like the way Charly takes the direct route towards goal, something he has done especially well away from home. If there is a question mark it concerns his play in front of compact defences in home games. Overall though he makes things happen while his age allows him time to develop.

Like Charly and Gana a lot.

Re: DCL, Keane - how many times do they have to let you down before you realise they are not good enough?

I'd rather sign Keane as a striker and promote a defender from the yoof

I'd happily see them both replaced with better - same goes for anybody else too. However, what little money we can spend may need to be carefully used to best effect.

This was a no-brainer. Thrilled we signed this kid I think he has real talent.

He's a player who just instinctively looks to go forward. He has an attacking mindset, I love it.

Go get 'em Charly!

Dennis back at 1 -

Unless we sign a RB, I think Keane will be signed.

He played well under Moyes. O'B should be at CB but if we don't sign a RB he'll play there, and then we simply have to have depth at CB and Keane I think would be signed?

DCL has to go. If we sign him back I'll be unhappy. I wish him well, but we have to move on and bring on a striker. Delap would have been great, but Chelsea was more shiny and flashy, more's the pity.

Striker is the last piece of the puzzle for me. Charly and Gana are fantastic signings and I assume Charly will be moved to the 10 and our spine will be great. It's a very "Moyes" looking team, but we have to get a striker. Beto just won't cut the mustard, bless him.

Hopefully Chelsea won’t go after Braithwaite…can’t afford to lose him at this stage in the rebuild..

Seems a really odd one with the 2 year contract, I wonder what that's about?

Not only that, Jamie #9, we also don't know how fully Tarlowski will recover or when he'll be available for selection. Moyes may feel that retaining Keane makes sense, for the right price of course.

The problem with re-signing Keane is his wages. Reported to be on 70/80k a week. Do we want to commit that amount to 4th choice CB? I cant see him taking a wage cut when he could probably get something similar to that elsewhere and be first choice.

Could we find a CB on a free transfer with lower wage demands? Or even promote Reece Welch to 4th choice?

It's not a problem, Ben #13. If a deal that offers acceptable value to the Club can't be done, we won't sign him up - same as Doucoure.
