Everton have completed a significant piece of summer business with the news that star defender Jarrad Branthwaite has agreed terms on a lucrative new contract extension.

The defender, who celebrated his 23rd birthday a few days ago, has signed a new deal that ties him to the Toffees until 2030, a statement by new owners The Friedkin Group, that they want to build a competitive team and move away from the model of selling the Club's best players that has dominated the last few years.

Branthwaite's previous contract had two years to run with Everton holding an option for a further 12 months but significant interest in the budding England international from Manchester United last year and the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool in recent weeks has prompted TFG to tie down their prized asset.

The Cumbrian's new deal is believed to have significantly increased his renumeration to keep him at Everton and put him closer to the Blues' top earners, reward for two excellent seasons since returning from a successful loan sell in 2022/23 with PSV Eindhoven.

“I’m over the moon," Branthwaite told evertontv. "It's been something we've been talking about since the end of the season and to get it signed now is something I'm really excited about.

“The trust the Club's put in me and how many games I've played over the past two seasons has made it quite an easy decision for me to stay and to keep progressing as a player.

“I know the Club. I feel loved by the players – we’ve got a good group here – and the fans. Over the past few years, I’ve seen the impact the fans have on us as a team and how much it means to them. And, obviously, with the new stadium we’ve got here, the new ownership and the new manager, it's an exciting project and it's something I want to be part of.

“Moving to the new stadium together and having that first game at home is something we’re all looking forward to. We want to go again and push for a good season.”

Possibly the most important deal we will make this summer. He and O'brien could be the bedrock of our defence for seasons to come.
We need next to find that most elusive figure in football, the fifteen goal a season man, at a price and wage we can afford.

Great news, if we can back it up with bringing in some more young talent this has the makings of a very good summer

Great news. Having a top centre back is critical for any club aspiring to compete at the top level. Securing Jarrad’s services for the next few seasons is a huge step forward for our club.

He is still learning but subject to his staying free of injury Jarrad can become both the defensive rock and the leader of the squad for many years to come.

A five year deal means a win for everybody. He gets the security of regular first team games, we get a quality player staying with us that cost us buttons.

He's had a couple of transfer windows of speculation and potential offers and his head hasn't been turned. This gives us a chance to show him we're serious about progression. Clever transfers are the key to having players like him and Ndiaye stay.

Always reluctant to put pressure on youngsters by saddling them with unrealistically high expectations. So much has to go right for them.

This is a really big season in the career of young Jarrod. Glad he will be spending it with us
