Everton have made their third permanent signing of the summer with the news that they have acquired Mark Travers in an initial £4m deal from Bournemouth.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper underwent a successful medical on Monday before signing a four-year contract.

Travers had been vying with Kepa and Neto for the first-choice slot at Vitality Stadium and saw a potential opportunity open up when the on-loan Spaniard returned to London and signed for Arsenal.

However, with the Cherries signing Dejan Petrovic from Chelsea, Travers was once again left as a nominal back-up and he was tempted by a fresh opportunity on Merseyside with the Toffees instead.

Travers was believed to favour a switch that guaranteed regular starts but David Moyes and his recruitment staff have managed to persuade the Irishman to join the Everton evolution underway at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Travers, who has been capped four times by the Republic of Ireland, turned professional at Bournemouth in 2017 and has had loan spells at Weymouth, Swindon Town, Stoke City and, last season, at Middlesbrough.

Strange indeed that someone supposedly entering his peak as a Goalie would forego first team football (and International Team aspirations, against a Red S*ite no less!) to come and brace the bench that comes with the River Mersey Chill. Perhaps a slightly over-the-market salary (or a big, fat Signing Bonus) tempted him (we all have our own family to raise!): I am fine if Mark's contract carries a decent base salary with a large bonus when he hits the pitch.

When Jordan gets into a funk, would Moyes have the balls to drop him in favour of Mark? Fun times ahead indeed!

Shrewd business a d he's a good goal keeper.

Solid delivery, in this transfer window and hopefully some more players will be added in time to gel in before the season kicks off.
