First pre-season run-out ends all square at Accrington
Beto scored a 78th-minute equaliser as Everton drew 1-1 with Accrington Stanley in sodden conditions at the Wham Stadium this evening.
The Portuguese fired an excellent penalty into the top corner after Isaac Heath had been felled in the box to cancel out Ben Ward's opener.
Ward had scored in the 50th minute when he connected with a deep corner from the Accrington left to head past Harry Tyrer through a crowded six-yard box.
The Toffees' first friendly of the summer was a chance to put minutes in the legs of a handful of first-teamers like Nathan Patterson, Michael Keane, Dwight McNeil, Tim Iroegbunam, Youssef Chermiti and Charly Alcaraz while also giving an opportunity to shine for some of the Club's up-and-coming youngsters.
Heath impressed down the left as did 16-year-old Justin Clarke on the other flank while Harrison Armstrong was another impressive performer on the night.
Everton travel to Backburn this coming weekend before heading off the United States to take part in the Premier League Summer Series.
Everton: Tyrer, Patterson, Mykolenko (Tamen 46'), Keane, Branthwaite (O'Brien 46'), Iroegbunam, Garner (Beto 46'), Armstrong (Metcalfe 77'), Alcaraz (Heath 63'), McNeil, Chermiti (Clarke 63')
Subs not used: Barnsley, Graham, Onyango, O. Samuels-Smith, Gomez

I'm delighted for Beto. I know it's only a pre-season game but a goal, and a penalty to boot, in the first game of the season/pre-season of any description is good for confidence.
DCL may have been viewed as the main striker at the club for many years. Beto staked a claim last season. He may well feel the need to do so again this season with Barry having arrived.
