Chermiti leaves Everton for Rangers in £8m deal
Everton made their first sale of a senior-level player of the summer after agreeing to the transfer of Youssef Chermiti to Rangers in a deal that could eventually be worth £10m.
The Portuguese, originally acquired from Sporting CP two years ago, traveled to Glasgow this weekend to undergo a medical after the two clubs negotiated terms on a permanent move having intially settled on a season-long loan.
Still only 21, Chermiti only featured fleetingly in pre-season for the Blues, an indication that he was not part of David Moyes's plans for the 2025/26 campaign. That came on the heels of reports from inside Finch Farm that the manager had misgivings about the player's application in training.
Chermiti arrived at Goodison Park as an exciting teenage prospect when he was signed by former director of football, Kevin Thelwell, for an initial £12m. The total fee could have reached £15m once all appearance-related add-ons were factored in but with just 24 appearances for Everton, only one start and no goals to his name, that was never likely.
His career in England looked as though it might take off a year ago when he was the standout performer in pre-season but a serious toe tendon injury sidelined him for an extensive period and cost him a proposed loan move to Watford.
Now, he gets an opportunity to relaunch his career north of the Border at Ibrox Park where the recent departure of Hamza Igamane to Lille should give him ample opportunities to show his worth.

Gav Buckland (who I think has forgotten more about football than I'll ever know) said this lad looked like he could be a real player.
For what it's worth I thought he looked like he could play but was never given a chance.
I have a high opinion of Thelwell and he is signing Chermiti twice.
Really hope he smashes it for Rangers but if true I think he joined us at the wrong time and is joining them at the wrong time.

Chris K., great to find my long lost fellow member of the Thelwell Brigade! New DoFs tend to "raid" their former clubs, and I ain't surprised with this deal.
That £10MM price tag on paper could be in so many installments that while we might have recorded a "Profit" or "On Par" on the P&L Statement for this season, we might not get the full cash amount in until God-Knows-When.
Anyhow, not liking this deal at all, mostly due to the distressed price tag and giving up on the potential, but Chermiti is not the first one, and won't be the last one, who incurred Moyes' wrath: when that happens, the players' price tag would plummet faster than the Tech Stocks in Nasdaq.
Kudos to Thelwell acquiring a distressed asset on the cheap that he knows very well of.

He never had a proper run of games. With the last couple of seasons we've had, young players were never going to get a proper chance in the first team.
Hopefully our current form extends over the course of the full season and Armstrong gets proper minutes. I think Iron Tim is far enough along the development path that he will be playing on a somewhat regular basis.
