Everton's Stadium to host five Euro 2028 matches
The home of Everton Football Club is to host five matches at UEFA EURO 2028 UK & Ireland – four group stage matches and one Round of 16 clash.
The match schedule for the tournament was revealed on Wednesday evening, alongside the official tournament, host city and host venue logos as the countdown to the summer 2028 competition began.
Everton Stadium's opening match of the tournament will be a Group D fixture on Sunday 11 June — the first of three matches at the venue that will fall on the weekend.
The stadium will host a Group A match on Wednesday 14 June and a Group E contest on Saturday 17 June, before one of Group C's closing fixtures is played in the city on Tuesday 20 June. The runners-up of Groups A and B will then meet by the River Mersey and battle for a place in the quarter-finals on Saturday 24 June.
Everton’s Chief Real Estate and Regeneration Officer Colin Chong and Director of New Stadium Development Alix Waldron joined Liverpool and Halton Council Leaders, Councillor Liam Robinson and Councillor Mike Wharton, at an official UEFA launch event in London, where the schedule and tournament branding were unveiled at the symbolic time of 20:28.
Hill Dickinson Stadium will be known as Everton Stadium for the duration of the Euro 2028 tournament
At the same time, the host venue logo for Everton Stadium - as it will be known for the tournament - was revealed on the stadium’s screens, while the Club’s waterfront home was lit up to mimic the logo’s blue and violet colour scheme. The city's official tournament logo could also be seen emblazoned on historic landmarks including the Cunard Building and the Royal Albert Dock, while the Royal Liver Building was illuminated to celebrate the launch.

Angus Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer of Everton Football Club, said: “This is a proud moment for Everton and for our new waterfront home. Our stadium was designed to host the biggest moments in sport, and to see it formally part of the venue schedule for UEFA EURO 2028 is a landmark in the Club’s history.
"The tournament will showcase the best of our city and our new stadium to millions of people around the world. It will also deliver a significant economic boost for Liverpool City Region, bringing new visitors, new spend and new profile to the waterfront and the wider economy. We look forward to working closely with UEFA, UK & Ireland 2028, the City Region and our partners to deliver an unforgettable experience for supporters and for football.”
The five fixtures at Everton Stadium are expected to deliver a multi-million pound economic boost to the region as 24 nations compete in the tournament.
UEFA has promised that more than three million match tickets will be available for supporters throughout the tournament - at matches held across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
UEFA EURO 2028 UK & Ireland will also see the implementation of the largest-ever community programme for the tournament. Social impact plans will be delivered by local stakeholders in each host nation to harness the power of sport and culture, bring communities together and inspire positive change.
These plans will ensure the tournament is celebrated in hundreds of communities, placing the spotlight on football inclusivity, volunteers and community heroes. The community programme will also use the tournament as a catalyst to grow a more diverse and sustainable game, build belonging, boost pride and promote positive behaviours at all levels of football.
Kick-off times for all tournament fixtures will be announced following the main draw, which will be held in December 2027.

This is a great thing for our club, it'll put our name out there in a positive light and that's exactly what we need (along with a lot of other things) after being the Crisis Club for the last few years.
It's a fantastic stadium and well worthy of being used for such a massive tournament.
Hopefully we'll be back in Europe by then anyway!

I read somewhere that England will be in Group B (not sure how they know this already), and so if they were to be runner up in their group then we would see an England play a knock-out game at "Everton Stadium".
That would be a pretty special occasion.

You have a world class new stadium on the banks of the Mersey, or a McDonalds box in Stanley Park.
Times are changing.

They can look to the east and see that tall Aluminium shack they keep building upwards.
Imagine those poor reds on the Northern Line and Kirkby/Ormskirk looking to their right in green horror that the waterfront/history/city is ours.
Mordor is history; we are the future.
Well, can we find 500 million quid to spend and do a better job than they did this summer.

First time posting here and following many other ex Toffeewebers to this forum. Thanks again Lyndon!
This is EXACTLY the incremental benefit a state of the art stadium can bring, both monetary and reputation. Extra £M's into the club and City, extra eyeballs from around the world.
Remember what you felt the first time you saw the Azteca or San Siro? thats what it will be like for the 10 year olds who see the brilliantly simple "Everton Stadium" in 2028.
Brilliant news from the brilliant blues.

Jamie @ 3. England were scheduled to play a tournament match at Goodison once but the FA put a stop to that.

Andrew #8, my father went to all the World Cup games at Goodison in '66 - you could buy a book of tickets for all the group games, the quarter final and the semi final. He said that the FA had said if England got to the semi final, it would be at Goodison, and then when England did qualify, promptly reversed that decision. I wasn't even a dirty thought in his mind then, so no idea if England were simply not expected to do so well.

I love this comment! Well, can we find 500 million quid to spend and do a better job than they did this summer.

Great news. What team will Evertonians support?

Probably those that feature Everton players, Andy

I was struck whilst watching a clip of the rugby how the new stadium is completely anonymous when Everton aren't there, it could be anywhere. Unlike Goodison, if they'd played at Goodison it would have felt like they were using our ground.
Must admit I can't get TOO excited at how well the asset can be sweated. The club takes another little step away from us.

The World Cup in 1966 was huge for the area surrounding Goodison.
Im not quite sure what the local arrangements were, it may have been as basic to the householders as “well give you 3 big decent tins of paint if you apply it to the front of your house”. But the place was immaculate.

Wonder if Evertonians will get preference for tickets?

I was lucky enough to see all the world cup games at Goodison in 66.
To see some of the worlds best players grace the stadium and see thousands of foreign visitors in the city enjoying our well-earned reputation for hospitality will be incredible and kudos to the club and new owners for achieving this.
Also well done Mr Moshiri, you may have facilitated the disgraceful running of the club but you have secured a better future and helped restore blue pride.

Great for the city and the club.
I'm old enough to remember the 66 world cup games at Goodison Park, these events are good news and will live long in the memory 😀
