Everton return on-loan quartet to their parent clubs

Everton have announced that Armando Broja, Jesper Lindstrøm, Jack Harrison and Orel Mangala will all see their loan deals expire this summer without any options to retain them being activated.

The Blues had the option to purchase either or both of Broja and Lindstrøm but elected not to trigger the related clauses so those players will go back to Chelsea and Napoli, respectively.

Harrison, meanwhile, was said to be very keen on securing a permanent deal to remain at Everton following two seasons on loan but he has been sent back to newly-promoted Leeds United where he is on a lengthy contract.

Mangala, who ruptured his ACL earlier this year and will likely not see action until the middle of next season at the earliest, stays a Lyon player while he completes his rehabilitation.

Everton had negotiated a £30m purchase option with Chelsea for Broja, but the striker was signed carrying an Achilles injury and suffered two more problems during his time at Goodison Park so was never able to get going.

He failed to register a shot on target let alone score a goal in his nine appearances so the likelihood of the Club making such a significant outlay on an unproven player was slim.

Linstrøm also failed to convince before picking up a hernia issue that required surgery late in the season. The Dane showed moments of the form that originally persuaded Napoli to spend €30m to sign him from Eintracht Frankfurt but not enough to justify the reported €20m it would have required Everton to pay the Italian club this summer for his services.

“We wish Jack, Jesper, Orel and Armando all the very best for the future.”

Of the four Mangala and Harrison were, arguably, the most likely players to have returned for next season, but the serious nature of the injury the Belgian sustained put paid to any future deal.

Everton’s statement indicated, however, that the Club are in talks with Flamengo over making Charlie Alcaraz's loan move permanent this summer.

An automatic purchase clause was not triggered during the season, but the Toffees have first option on the Argentine, who scored his second goal for Everton in yesterday’s 1–0 victory at Newcastle.
