Everton's attempts to sign cover at full-back must continue after Kenny Tete opted to stay with Fulham rather than take up the chance to move to Bramley-Moore Dock this summer.

The Dutchman, potentially a free agent this summer with his contract with the Cottagers coming to an end yesterday, appeared close to joining the Toffees last week amid reports he had agreed terms on a three-year deal.

However, following further discussions with Fulham, he has decided to accept a new deal there, forcing David Moyes and Everton's recruitment team back into the market.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Kyle Walker, Kyle Waker-Peters and Vladimir Coufal before Tete emerged as the top target.

Moyes is hoping to augment his options at right-back despite Seamus Coleman's decision to extend his stay at the Club by a further year.

The Irishman is not expected to be a first-team regular this coming season but has been retained due to his extensive experience and leadership qualities.

Seriously wonder how close this actually ever was - looks rather like agent shenanigans to me…

In better news: Walker has signed for Burnley!

Tete was just like Keane and Coleman. At the end of his contract and considering his options. Fulham have simplybdone what we did with Keane.

Walker looks like a promoted club signing. What made him a stand out player, his pace, is gone, and a newly promoted club is taking a punt on his experience.
