Everton have confirmed that Idrissa Gueye has signed a new one-year contract with the Club, with reports indicating that there is an option for a further 12 months that would keep the Senegal international at Hill Dickinson Stadium until 2027.

The two parties have negotiated at length over the terms of the deal but final agreement was reached in the past few days and the 35-year-old put pen to paper on his new deal over weekend.

Gueye's performances last season belied his age and he was named player of the season for 2024/25 following a hugely consistent campaign in which the team struggled over the first half under Sean Dyche but recovered superbly under David Moyes to finish a respectable 13th.

With so many players out of contract this summer, retaining Gueye, who is enjoying his second spell at Everton, was seen as vital to ensuring a measure of continuity in the middle of the park.

The Blues' new recruitment team are expected to try and add players to that part of the team this summer but, for now, one of its most important components has been tied down on a new contract.

“Everyone knows what Everton means to me and my family," Gueye told evertonfc.com. "After six seasons here, this club is more than just a place I play, it’s part of who I am.

“I’m proud to start my seventh year as a Blue. Last season was a strong one for me personally, and I feel ready, fresh, and more driven than ever to keep pushing.

“With our beautiful new stadium and a real sense of momentum throughout the Club, this season feels like a turning point, the chance to build something big and lasting.

“We’ve got the foundations. Now it’s up to us: players, staff, the manager, the board, and most importantly, our fans, to come together so we can raise the bar again and take Everton back to where it belongs.

“I’m fully committed to that challenge. Let’s go again. Together.”

Good news. No mistake, Gana was our best player last season.
