Nørgaard unveiled as Everton move to replace Gana Gueye
Everton have announced the signing of Christian Nørgaard from Arsenal for a fee that is officially undisclosed but has widely been reported to be in the region of £7m.
The 32-year-old former Brentford midfielder becomes the Blues’ fourth signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Merlin Röhl, Hayden Hackney and Tyrique George.
Nørgaard signs a two-year contract and he expressed how pleased he was to get the opportunity to represent Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium in his first interview with the club. He will wear the No 23 shirt vacated by Seamus Coleman.
"It feels amazing. I'm so, so happy and pleased to have joined Everton,” Nørgaard told evertontv.
“There were many factors to it. I felt I needed a change and to play a bigger football role. When I spoke to David Moyes and others at the Club involved in the transfer, I heard about the whole project and I was very intrigued. Coming here just makes that feeling even stronger.
“Also, my past experience of playing against Everton: the whole atmosphere, the fans, is something I really look forward to experience as an Everton player. It’s a big, big honour for me, and it's something I'll do my very best, not only on game days, but in general to remember how much it means for people who support this club. It will be my mindset to represent the Club in the best possible way.
“I can't wait to experience the atmosphere as an Everton player. Goodison was amazing. I just remember the ground was shaking – literally shaking. Then we came to the new stadium last year and I was so surprised because you often see clubs lose that intimacy and atmosphere [at a new stadium]. But I was so overwhelmed by how good the atmosphere was as well. So I can see that the soul from Goodison has been brought to the new stadium.”

4 fairly low key but astute looking signings so far. George, Hackney and Rohl all low cost, on an upward trajectory and capable of being part of an improving squad for 5 to 10 years. Norgaard bought for peanuts but brings vast experience and set piece threat.
I still expect another 3 or 4 first team squad signings (inc loans) before the window shuts.

I think this could prove to be a very, very decent signing.I also think people would have been more enthused about it had he joined us straight from Brentford as opposed to spending a season at Arsenal.This was also mentioned on Toffee TV.Although he was hardly likely to turn down the chance of going to The Emirates.But he seems to be a strong leader, and his stats as Brentford captain were impressive.Also a player with great Premier League and international experience, who younger players with far less Premier League experience such as Armstrong, Hackney and Rohl could benefit from playing alongside.Possibly Jimmy Garner too.And price wise, it’s nothing in comparison to what other clubs are paying for central midfielders.As has been said already, definitely a positive “Gareth Barry” type of feel about this signing.

Slightly differing styles but I can see him having the same galvanising effect on the team as that other ex-Arsenal defensive mid, Xhaka had for Sunderland last season. Nørgaard could take his crown as this summer’s clever bargain signing. Now we don’t have to worry every time we see the name “Soucek” pop up.

The Cleaner speaks Christine… ‘ The best way to talk about the project is not to mention the project. Too much proactive optimism will cause despondency if things don’t work out…better off keeping the faithful in the dark so they are running around in circles unable to fathom out what the project is. Then if the Club manages to sneak into Europe -or even more unlikely happens to win a Cup-the project can be unveiled as just that… allowing Mr Kinnear to appear prophetic while dumping the lamentable happily dissatisfied soundbite into the dustbin where it belongs!’

I think there probably is a lot of talk of a project. This will appear as them knowing what they are doing, but on the ground the infrastructure is not there and the development of young players is not fire coming.He says he is intrigued, but does not commit to faith in the project.He is a 32 year old player looking to be selected to play.

We’ll get a right back by the end of the window. ASAP would be better, but the whole Everton RB saga has dragged out to the point where, short of Roberto Carlos, whoever we get in will be massively scrutinised, from their very first kick. They’d better get it right. No pressure…

I'd be more concerned if the likely RB targets - Spence, Lewis, Norton-Cuffey etc had moved elsewhere. There are dozens and dozens of good RB options this summer - and only a few have moved this summer: Palestra (to Chelsea), Joao Mario, Konoplia and Mingueza (to Palace).
It looks like we're just sorting out the low cost deals we can do without any sales (e.g. Rohl, George, Hackney, Norgaard and maybe Johnston) but further business will depend on whether Ndiaye is leaving and, if so, for how much.

This signing is really growing on me, I think he’ll be instrumental for us and will fit right into the team seamlessly.
This is a proper Everton type of signing, older players who are somewhat underrated and underused at big clubs but still have lots to offer, ie Gareth Barry comes to mind although Barry was a class above but you get the drift.
Top signing this one and a real pro who will do well mentoring the likes of Hackney, Röhl etc.
Apparently we’re in for a RB from Celtic, Alistair Johnston? Seems to fit the Everton mold, a proper energetic full back. He started their season opener against Dundee a couple of days ago so it seems the transfer isn’t as imminent as speculation suggests? Id expect they want him available for their champions league play off against LASK in a couple of weeks, surely we won’t be waiting till then?
